The AA battery is the most used battery in all the world and can be found on thousands of devices. IEC codes for AA batteries include the popular LR6 for AA alkaline batteries and HR6 for rechargeable NiMH batteries. AA alkaline batteries last for 6 years, but the equivalents of AA batteries last for 9 years before use. The rechargeable AA batteries are now available in NiMH with capacities of up to 2850mAh and are also available in the new "pre-charged" technology that allows them to be used, directly from the package.
